Welcome back!

So last week I took the week off after the riots happened. It didn't quite feel right writing about fashion and style and bargains when there was such a major political moment happening in my city.

But now I'm back, showing off a look I wore a few weeks ago!

So this outfit came out on a casual Friday when I was attending a staff luncheon at work. Normally Fridays call for jeans. But y'all, I'd been dying to break out this dress and these wedges, and it was finally warm enough to put them together. This striped dress is a comfy t-shirt dress I bought on thrift for $7 and has been the best deal ever. It's soft and kind of like wearing pajamas outside. The wedges I bought at the end of last summer and only got a few opportunities to wear them before the fall set it and it was too cold.

To make it denim Friday, I threw on a denim jacket. And just for the sake of pattern mixing, I put the scarf on, too. Sometimes you need a punch of color right up near your face, and this was it for me. (Yes, I'm aware this scarf was in last week's post, too, and I said something similar. But I really, really love this scarf. It's an obsession.) I loved sitting out on the patio with my co-workers feeling the sun while eating cheesecake.

Okay, so have I professed lately how much I like this skirt? No? Well here we go again.

Most people wouldn't look at a robin's egg blue midi skirt and think of it as a staple. Well I'm a weirdo and I think it is. And to prove it, I'm going to give you two different looks that I've worn this month with this skirt so you can see the diversity.

The first look I wore to work a few weeks ago, the day I decided I was going to do the Top 10 Remix (if you don't know what I'm talking about, check out my post here or the challenge creator Sarah's post here). While I don't think this would work in a law firm, I am fortunate enough to work in a business casual office where I can be creative without worry. The whole look was inspired by Ginger Rogers and the musical films of the 1950's--swing skirts, crisp tied shirts, and low heels. I guess I inspired the same attitude in others since my co-worker asked me to twirl for her when I got to the office. I love this simple white button-down I got from Old Navy a little over a year ago with navy polka dots to keep with the blue color scheme. Simple nude heels and I was done, out the door, and ready to dance for my dinner (literally and metaphorically).

The second look I wore to the farmer's market last Sunday and to take a drive to Trader Joe's. There's no way in hell you're getting me to wear heels to the farmer's market, because that would just be weird. So instead I decided to go bold and wear gladiator sandals like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. I paired it with a tied tank top and denim jacket (again, in blue-I'm apparently all about blue this month!). The whole look was informal, comfortable, and perfect for strolling through the stands to pick out my cheese and spring greens.

Welcome back!!

I've been under construction for the last week and a half while I cleaned up the blog. I really liked the old layout, but I wanted something more minimalistic to show off all the bright colors I wear and make me feel relaxed when I come to look at it. I think this new layout does that, so it's going to stick around for a bit. (That, and I hate, hate, hate HTML coding. A huge shoutout to my friend Chet for helping me fix some of the major problems of last night!!!!)

I'm also happy that I'm getting back on the ball with blog shooting. I absolutely love springtime because it is a perfect time to get out and shoot photos without either freezing or sweating. I realize I have to run a blog in all four seasons, but spring is my favorite time for it.

And this outfit was perfectly emblematic of my spring school style. Granted, I try hard to be very polished on a daily basis. But sometimes, like the day I wore this, it's Monday. And on a Monday, I like to be comfortable as well as cute. I love t-shirt dresses for this very reason. Now granted, this dress is probably a TAD too short (maybe? let me know what you think), but I like wearing it because I wear what I want and it's relaxed.

To compensate for short dresses, I typically throw on a jacket--because in my mind, that makes it better. I also put on a scarf, because I really like the balance of being covered up top with a short skirt. And of course, what makes an outfit more casual than a beat-up old pair of Converse? Nothing, I say.

This look was pre-Top 10 Remix but incidentally contains two Top 10 pieces--the yellow bag and lime bird scarf.
